The Railway Museum in Gävle tells the history of the Swedish railway. The museum is currently closed for renovation.

The Railway Museums collection is of international top class and consists of over 300 vehicles from the mid-1800s to the present day and includes Prins August, which is the world's oldest operable locomotive. The collection also contains objects and an extensive image library. The museum also conducts research and restorations using authentic methods of the day to preserve and maintain vehicles of cultural-historical value.

The Railway Museum has been run by the state since the beginning, under a number of different principals in the railway or transport sector. From 1 January 2018 the Swedish National Maritime and Transport Museums will be responsible for the museum's operation.

The museum is currently closed, with a re-opening hopefully by the end of 2021. With reservation for changes. Please check the website or contact us in time!
