Here you'll find information about the programme.
Sunday 15 September
The 19th ICMM congress will kick off with an optional pre-congress marine archaeology workshop in Stockholm on Sunday 15 September, followed by a relaxed get-together reception on the icebreaker St Erik. However, we recommend you arrive a few days earlier for the opportunity to discover the Swedish capital.
Monday 16 September
The official opening takes place on Monday morning, 16 September, at the Swedish Maritime Museum, followed by sessions and tours. The programme continues at the Vasa Museum after lunch and in the evening, we gather under the magnificent bow of the Vasa for the opening dinner.
Tuesday 17 September
On Tuesday morning 17 September we board MS Viking Grace, the ferry that will take us to Mariehamn. We will mix business with pleasure as we sail through the Swedish archipelago and across the Åland Sea. We arrive in Mariehamn in the early afternoon. After hotel check-ins we gather at the Åland Maritime Museum for a presentation and tour of the museum before attending the Mayor’s welcome reception at the Town Hall.
Wednesday 18 & Thursday 19 September
Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 September are filled with interesting sessions and inspiring workshops, as well as an opportunity to discover the new visitor experience on board the historic sailing vessel Pommern. We will revisit the Pommern on Thursday evening for an unforgettable Grand Congress Dinner in the cargo hold of the ship.
Friday 20 September
The official part of the 19 ICMM congress will close on Friday 20th September with an excursion to the island of Silverskär. It will be a perfect chance to slow down and reflect over all impressions from the week gone by. There will be plenty of time for impromptu meetings to discuss future work collaborations but also time for kayaking, walking, having saunas and perhaps even swimming. We will be well fed, and we will learn about archipelago living past and present.
Saturday 21 September
The post-congress tours will start at midnight on Saturday 21 September for those going on the Baltic cruise to Tallinn and Stockholm or Helsinki, and on Saturday morning 21 September for those going to Uppsala.
